Back, Sack and Crack Wax...'Ouch! No way!!!' But a chest or back wax; ' oh, it can't be that bad'.

It seems there is a phycological block on the crown jewels. Male hair removal is not a subject that regularly 'comes up' at the pub.

Truth is a chest wax is the worst area for a male to get waxed. The hair is a lot thicker and dense. In the pubic region the hair is a lot lighter and we can stretch the skin a lot more to reduce the 'ouch' sensation.

Chest and back waxes can lead to a histamine reaction, common with male chests/backs, which means you get little red spots after which last a few days to a few weeks. You can reduce this by exfoliating the day before and a few days after and following all your therapists aftercare advice. THis is also a common occurrence for the 'belt' area.

There are two types of wax, warm/strip wax which is used for bigger areas like chests/backs/legs/arms. The hot/hard wax is what we use for the intimate area as it sticks to the hair not the skin , a lot kinder to delicate thinner skin. At HRM Beauty the wax is designed for intimate waxes.

The worst thing about an intimate wax is you can't stick your hands down there to check if everything is still there for about 20 mins instead of the usual 2. (Don't worry everything will still be there after!) Sadly nothing would have gotten bigger, although getting rid of the hair does give that illusion. As well as feeling of being more clean and hygienic, there is no reason not to give it a go.

You will get addicted to the smooth results, which beat shaving. Not only do the results last longer, you will reduce the hairs thickness and regrowth speed over time. With shaving you are giving a 'haircut' so the hair looks thicker on regrowth and doesn't last very long.

Always look for a qualified therapist. (although it will be difficult to find reviews on the subject as most men don't want to advertise they are having it done in a review. It is a specialised course and few therapists offer the male intimate wax compared to the female equivalent. At HRM Beauty, you will get a waxing specialist.

Here are a few of my most FAQ:

What if I get an erection or 'leak'?

Touch administered to any part of the body can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, resulting in a partial or complete erection.

Don't worry it's more common than you think, just ignore it as I will. In waxing an erection actually helps! It stretches the penis so we can reach all the stray hairs in that area, without pulling you about too much.

Leaking again is something that is very common and will will give you a tissue to clean this.

Will I be judged or compared to other men?

No! We see so many (in a professional capacity) that if we put you in a line up an hour after we would not be able to pick you out. Everyone is a different shape and size, we don't care, we aren't looking in a sexual way we are looking in a professional way, same as a doctor or nurse.

We are also very self involved, we are paying attention to making sure we have done a good job, we don't have time to be 'looking' at you.

How long should the hair be?

Long enough so the hair is no longer at the 'prickly' stage but if you can wrap the hair around your little finger it is too long. This is different time lengths for different people. about half way round your little finger is perfect. Or around a months growth.

Can it be a sexual experience?

It is not a sexual experience for either party, although I'm sure there are a few people who get their kicks from it, there's a market for all sorts nowadays same as massage.

If you want this type of service, same with a massage and 'massage', research before you ask, most of us (professionals) will find it an insult and you may be subject to a follow up from the police! Any therapist who offers sexual services should make it clear. i.e. a 'therapist' (and I use the term loosely) with a picture of themselves in underwear is NOT the same as a professional therapist in a tunic.

Full ejaculation is also not acceptable and you will be asked to leave.

Can I get a 'happy ending'?

Even if I wanted to, you should not be getting any bodily fluids on a freshly exposed wax. Or any other dirt, sweat oils etc. This is why we advise clean bedding and clothes. This is help prevent spots, irritation and ingrown hairs.

What should I do before an appointment?

Wash! Use an exfoliating scrub to get rid of any dead skin and release any trapped hairs. Make sure all areas (front and back) are clean and dry.

How long between appointments?

About 5 weeks, the longer the hair the more uncomfortable it will be.
